I have had my Kestrel 2000 for about a year now and have had no problems. I find it to be very well made. My latest use is to test the temp and air speed of my central a/c after I had a freon leak. Usually it's for kayaking info.

Very cool instrument

I bought this instrument after I started getting into flying sport kites. In my arsenal there are many types of kites each suited for different conditions, so it was important to me to know what the wind conditions are at the time I'm ready to fly, not just for selecting the right sail but also for setting up. The Kestrel 2000 affords me exact conditions in the field and has really enhanced the enjoyment of my hobby. In my professional life I sometimes work in the field or on the water so the meter actually has many applications for me. It didnt take long to realize this is a quality instrument that is well built. I am a proud owner and would not hesitate to recommend any instrument in this line with total confidence. Kestrel 2000

I use my Kestrel for long range precision shooting, at ranges out to 1000 meters. The unit is easy to use, simple and accurate, and my wind calls have improved with it. Fit and finish, battery life, and readout visibility are all top notch. The only thing I would change would be the addition of a 1/4-20 thread, so it could be mounted on the spotting scope stand. Overall, this is a great product, which I would, and have, recommend to a friend.

The multifunctional Kestrel 2000 is now part of my boating essentials along with my VHF radio, GPS and survival kit. Now I know what I need to know about the local environment. It has already WOWED my fishing friends.

Kestrel 2000

Overall I am disappointed with my Kestrel meter. The design and construction is very solid and the wind gauge appears to be very accurate. However, the temperature gauge gives readings with significant fluctuations in short time spans. As an example, I took a temperature reading at the end of my driveway and within a 30 second span it ranged from 36F to 42F (I remained motionless and there were no objects near me to radiate any heat). This large fluctuation calls into question the accuracy. Also, I apparently purchased my meter from a distributor and all my inquiries and questions were not answered and politely referred to the manufacturer. This is poor service. The person who takes my money should have the ability to answer my questions. Overall I am disappointed. I am not sure if my unit is defective or simply just not well made.

These are unusual experiences, both with the meter and customer service. As far as the meter is concerned, the temperature of your hand MAY have played a role, as the meters are very sensitive. If however that does not seem to be the cause, we offer a 90-day return policy, and the manufacturer offers a very solid 5-year warranty. Sorry to hear your customer service experience was not to your satisfaction; yes, we are a retailer for Kestrel Meters, not the manufacturer, but in fact we do work in tandem with Nielsen-Kellerman to provide tech answers (in fact they have actually asked dealers to begin sending more questions straight to them), depending on their nature. I'm sorry that this was not your experience, but your feedback is appreciated and invaluable in helping us to consistently improve.

Just For Sport

I use the K 2000 while hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains for temp, wind speed and wind chill in the high country. Information I never had before. It was handy while canoeing in Utah in the strong headwinds. I use it every week and will not go out without it.
