Our Review of the Kestrel 2500 Wind Meter

All Kestrel Pocket Weather Meters are made in the USA and covered by a 5-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Additionally, every single Kestrel manufactured is calibrated for every single value, either directly against NIST-traceable standards or against an intermediary standard that is calibrated daily. Every unit is shipped with a FREE Certificate of Conformity that states what calibrations were performed, and the certified performance specifications.

The Kestrel 2500 Pocket Weather Meter measures wind and temperature with total accuracy, and has the added benefits of an air pressure sensor that provides altitude and barometric information. Kestrel 2500 technology enables you to follow changes in air pressure that help predict impending changes in the weather. Factor in the 2500's digital altimeter, and you have most of the weather information you need for outdoor activities ranging from model airplane flight to rifle practice.

The Kestrel 2500's sensitive and user-replaceable impeller technology provides accurate wind speed info. Additionally, an external temperature sensor and waterproof casing allow you to gauge the temperature of water (it even floats) and snow, as well as the open air. A hard slide-on case, lanyard, and battery are included.

Kestrel Pocket Weather Meters like the Kestrel 2500 are an essential tool for target rifle shooters and military professionals, and prove invaluable to outdoor enthusiasts (like skiers and mountain climbers) who need accurate and up to the minute weather information.

  • For military professionals, the Olive Drab NV version of the Kestrel 2500 features a night-vision preserving backlight. Backlight incorporates optical filter to reduce overall brightness and minimize blue and green spectrum light to preserve night vision.  (Note:  This backlight appears soft greyish pink, not "red", and is still in the visible spectrum, so is not compatible with night-vision equipment.)

As you work your way up the ladder, Kestrel Meters just get better and better. Check our Comparison Chart to see how one Kestrel Meter stacks up against another

This unit withstood climbing Mt. Washington, NH in the winter time. All instrument readings were accurate within 5% of actual recorded weather from the summit of Mt. Washington observatory. Simple, easy to use and durable.

Kestrel 2500 wind meter - Fire Service

Reviewer: Gary Morrison , Houston, TX. Date: December 02, 2008
We use the Kestrel 2500 wind meter for serviceing and testing fire pumps. The meter has proven to be accurate, dependable and almost fireman proof! Our work is in all types of weather and always in wet areas. I would say the only draw back is that the meter will not get back into the truck by itself. This is why i am on my second meter now. I also work as a Lieutenant for an area fire department and we are looking at purchasing these meters for our Hazardous Materials team for fast and accurate information when planning responses to emergency calls.

Performs as advertised

Reviewer: PJ , Winchester, TN Date: August 14, 2007
Went to local airport and set altitude and barometer then went testing. Went to four different locations with known altitudes and the 2500 was on the money. Only checked barometric reading twice so far but it is accurate as well. Wind readings seem to be a little bit touchy, only reason I didn't give it five stars.

kestrel 2500 great to have along

4
Reviewer: Howard Gordon , California Date: July 21, 2006
It's an easy meter to use and after over a years use still works great. I fly kites and love to know the wind speed to judge the spars to use in the kite along with which kite to fly. The temperature reading is "fun" here in Palm Springs when it's easily over 100 during the summer. Wish there was a way to measure the wind while fling a kite ..a tripod mount or base would be great so as to get average wind speeds while flying
