 All Kestrel Pocket Weather Meters are made in the USA and covered by a 5-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Additionally, every single Kestrel manufactured is calibrated for every single value, either directly against NIST-traceable standards or against an intermediary standard that is calibrated daily. Every unit is shipped with a FREE Certificate of Conformity that states what calibrations were performed, and the certified performance specifications.

The Kestrel 3500 Wind Meter has the most functions of any Kestrel Meter in the 3000 series. The Kestrel 3500 measures temperature, wind speeds, barometric phenomena, pressure trends of up to 3 hours, and more.   • For military professionals, the Olive Drab NV version of the Kestrel 3500 features a night-vision preserving backlight. Backlight incorporates optical filter to reduce overall brightness and minimize blue and green spectrum light to preserve night vision.  (Note:  This backlight appears soft greyish pink, not "red", and is still in the visible spectrum, so is not compatible with night-vision equipment.)

The Kestrel 3500's easy to use menu system scrolls through 9 different environmental measurement conditions. It has an external temperature sensor with a waterproof casing that allows you to gauge the temperature of water, snow, and the open air. The sensitive and user-replaceable impeller technology provides accurate wind speed info, and a hard slide-on case, lanyard, and battery are included.

Fire and Rain and Kestrel 3500 wind meter

I'm a wildland firefighter and my brother is a meteorologist. I've used lesser Kestrels out on the fireline as part of my weather kit and loved them. After hearing about my experience with the meters my brother really wanted one. I've heard great things about the Kestrel 3500 so I decided to get it for him as a Christmas gift. I'm saving it for the day to give it to him but don't think that's stopped me from taking it out to play with...errr...I mean TEST it, just to make sure its working right., of course! From what I can tell its one of the best in the field. I might have to buy one for myself. Thanks Kestrel I love your products.

Kestrel 3500 w/Night Vision

This device is amazing! Very compact design, sturdy, strong and light weight. The sensitive propeller is great for wind readings. I now easily can take wind speed, temperature, and time readings without any hassle while in the field. I appreciate the low key olive color of my unit and the backlight is appropriately designed with a dimmer, less bright glare for subtle illumination.

Everything works great my only problem is that the screen gets scratched when placing in the holder. It seems to me it would not be hard to have the case made with some felt to protect the screen when placed in the case. My screen was scratched the day I recieved it due to this issue.

Kestrel 3500 w/Night Vision Olive.

This is an excellent wind meter for my students. I bought it to go with my weather unit in 4th grade and it is great for students to take out and check wind speed, barometric pressure, wind chill, and real time temperature. Great instrument.

received the unit. has a problem with backlight. called the company. returned for repair. they sent a new unit within 2-3 weeks. all is fine. after the initial setup, the unit works on its own.

Case is poorly designed for unit.

The unit works great and I would give it 4 or 5 stars but the case fits tightly over the display and any dust or sand that gets into the case will badly scratch it. If they recessed the display or widened the case around the display this would not occur.

Originally purchased the 3500 NV. Great meter, but I found with the red night light that it was almost impossible to read. Returned it for the std 3500 model. Very satisfied.

This meter is really cool! Easy to operate, easy to see display, and it seems accurate. Plus it's very compact. Just a bit pricey, I think.

3500NV

I recently purchased a 3500NV for long range shooting. I bought it on the recommendation that it was the best weather meter on the market. I was very pleased with the readings and the ease of use. The problems that I had with the 3500NV caused me to return it. In the description it states that the 3500NV has a red back light, the one I received had a white back light. I emailed customer service and they told me to send it back and they would send me a new one. They sent me a return shipping label and I sent it back. Almost two weeks later I received a new 3500NV. I checked the back light and again it was white. After a few more frustrating emails. I am returning the second meter for a refund. I will be looking else where for a wind meter.

Thanks for your review. Our call center had contacted me about this, and we notified Nielsen-Kellerman (to whom we returned the product), who is looking into the problem. Every meter they make is built in-house at their Pennsylvania location, so they should be able to identify what happened. The thing that I am still scratching my head about is the fact that Kestrel backlights are either or a greenish hue (standard models) or red (as on the NV models) - not sure how a white backlight came into play. I regret that this issue has turned you off from Kestrel meters. I have a couple (a 4000 and a 4300) and have found them to be dead reliable, even in the harshest conditions and less-than-friendly handling.
