Our Review of the Nitelze Kestrel Meter 4000 Belt Clip Case

The Nitelze Belt Clip Case provides total protection for your Kestrel 4000, 4100, 4200, 4300 or 4500, as well as an easy way to clip it to to your belt or backpack. It's is designed to expose only the Kestrel's sensors - so it will continue to record accurate readings while protected. The Nitelze Carry Case is made of a sturdy triple laminate of polyurethane, vinyl and nylon, with neoprene rubber inside to hold the Kestrel 4000 series snugly. The rugged clip accomodates up to a 2 1/4" belt, and can also be attached to your waistband. There's also a strong hook and loop strap - for secure and easy mounting to a backpack or harness strap.

Excellent case ... one (two?) annoyance

Reviewer: Braden Walters , Calgary, Alberta Date: August 14, 2006

Although technically a "soft" case, this is one of the sturdiest I have ever seen. The front and back panels are thick and stiff; my meter remains in this case at all times when I am not looking at it, and I often throw the meter in my backpack where it rattles around with tons of other potentially "dangerous" articles. I am not at all worried about my meter when it is in this case.

However, the case does have one major annoyance, and one "kind-of" annoyance. First, the "kind-of" annoyance: The belt clip is one of those that has a strong upward bend at the bottom of the clip, so that it essentially completely encircles the belt. This makes it extremely secure on all but an oversize belt. But it also makes it *really* darn difficult to take off of a belt once it's on; it does not simply slide on and off. I will leave it up to the reader to decide if that is a real annoyance or not; I suspect someday I will be glad of this feature, but right now, it is simply annoying.

The major annoyance is a big one for me; the velcro on the front panel is obviously both stitched and glued. I know this, because the glue is leaking through the stitch holes on the inside of the case and gumming up the screen of my meter when I pull it out. It does wipe off with a bit of work (it's mildly more tolerable if you have done what I have done and cut out a small piece of screen protector, such as from a PDA, and put it over the screen). But taking the meter in and out of the case repeatedly can result in a really gummy screen.

I still highly recommend this case; if not for the glue issue, I would easily give it a 5-star rating.
