With this feature, you can measure the actual atmospheric pressure, known in weather terminology as "station pressure" with your Kestrel Meter. For forecasting purposes, station pressure is corrected to the equivalent pressure at sea level to eliminate the impact of local geography, like mountains and valleys. Kestrel uses the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standard Atmosphere model, which specifies an altitude for any pressure. In order for your Kestrel to make this adjustment you will need to enter the actual altitude (reference altitude). By knowing the altitude of locations you visit frequently (i.e. your home, office, airfield), you can reset the reference altitude on your Kestrel Meter on a regular basis to ensure you are getting an accurate barometric pressure reading.
