Older Model 3000

5
Reviewer: Brian O'Neill , IL Date: December 22, 2008
I have had the older model K3000 for more than five years. Other than having to change the battery, which by the way lasted a long time, it has been working flawlessly. I refer to it often before I head out to work, when I have to check indoor relative humidity, or wind speed and temps outdoors. I've used it in all conditions and can highly recommend it. Whenever weather measurements are needed quickly and accurately, this is the tool to have.

Kestrel 3000

Reviewer: Bob Hutchinson , Albert Lea, MN Date: April 23, 2008
First, I must say how impressed I am with the great customer service I have received. I contacted the company via e-mail a few different times and got a prompt response, usually within a hour or less. The product itself is an amazing little tool. I am a superintendent in the construction field and a crane operator. The many features this product offers eliminates alot of guess work. It was sent promptly, packaged very well and set up to use right out of the box. I am extremely happy with all aspects. Thank You, Bob Hutchinson

Kestral 3500

5
Reviewer: Bruce Medendorp , White Cloud, Michigan Date: September 17, 2007
My experience with Kestral was nothing short of excellent in all aspects. I was most impressed with the manner, speed and follow-up with the Kestral staff. Ordering was a breeze, confirmation of the order was immediate and packaging/shipping (very well protected) was perfect. I ordered on a Friday and was using it on the following Monday. The Kestral 3500 unit met my expectations and more. The design and workmanship is excellent. The functions are quite easy to perform and the response time between functions is fast. I cannot honestly say I couldn't come up with any faults. If I were to have any regrets it would be that I didn't bump up the model number for the added features but not having known anyone with the Kestral, I took the baby steps first. Excellent product and service all the way around. My uses are general and for shooting. If you use Kestral for shooting, get the wind direction unit options, I didn't and wish I had.

Case Damages LCD Display Lens

4
Reviewer: Gerald B. Curtis , GRANTS NM Date: April 20, 2007
This is a fine instrument and functions well, as promised. Unfortunately, the part of the instrument where the clear LCD display lens is located is slightly thicker than the adjacent housing. Because of that, as the case is slid off and on, the case scrapes against the lens. This causes scratch marks that have begun to make the LCD display more and more difficult to read over time. I wonder if the warranty covers this design or manufacturing defect? If not, the only cure will be to re-purchase what is otherwise an excellent instrument. I invite Kestrel to respond to my concerns. ***

Comments from The Staff:

Nielsen Kellerman, the manufacturer of Kestrel Meters would like to offer a replacement unit under warranty. They are taking this information to their engineers to review the current process and to make sure that the problem does not reoccur. Thank you for giving them the opportunity to fix this problem.

Kestrel 3000 Wind Meter

5
Reviewer: Karen Kirtland , Riverside, CA Date: September 25, 2006
Great little weather station, just like the product description says. It even gives you the average wind speed, very useful in my work. Easy to use, easy to understand, light and easy to carry. One downside - if your eyesight is aging, like mine, the small symbols indicating humidity, Fahrenheit, etc., can be difficult to read. However, once you recognize the shapes, it isn't too difficult. The black characters against the light background show up marvelously, even in bright sunlight. Quick response to temperature changes (going from heated car to cool mountain air for example), so the wait time is limited. I haven't tried floating it in water yet, as water sources are limited in my part of the world. All in all, I'm very glad I purchased it.

Great product, great support!

5
Reviewer: Anonymous , Northport, MI Date: July 22, 2006
I did a lot of research before buying Kestrel and the Kestrel 3000. I looked at other brands ā?¦ This unit was tops in my book for what I was looking for. The 3000 exceeds my expectations: its solid construction, combination of features, accuracy, ease of use, availability of maintenance parts and user maintainability topped my wish list when it came time to purchase. Customer service, when - dummy me! - I couldnā??t figure something out from the instructions, was knowledgeable and responsive: they held my hand until I got it right. I wish every purveyor made and supported its product as well as Kestrel does!

Curious

Reviewer: Steve , Cape Coral, Florida Date: July 21, 2006
The 3000 wind meter works good in wind below 30mph. I could not get a higher reading than that and I know it was stronger. Huricane Wilma was passing by and the winds were around 80mph.

The screen should be recessed.

Reviewer: Locana de Souza , Tucson, Arizona Date: July 21, 2006
The functionality of the kestrel 3000 is great. It has several useful features that are straightforward to use. However, the huge drawback is that there is not enough space between the cover and the screen. If you have occasion, as I have, to use this instrument under windy conditions in areas of fine blowsand, once you use the instrument and slide it back into the cover, the face gets scratched. Unfortunately, this really detracts from the overall appeal of this product. The screen should be recessed to protect it from getting scratched.

My only negative is that the characters are hard to read until one learns the order in which they appear, dew point or wind max .

I've been using the Kestrel 3000 for 2 years now while doing Thermographic surveys of power stations inside and out. Knowing wind speed and humidity is extremely helpful for the analysis in the final report. I've foud it to be rugged and dependable.

Kestrel 3000

Reviewer: Gene Mueller , Washington Times Date: October 26, 2005
The Kestrel 3000 Pocket Weather Meter is the name of the small instrument that provides astonishing accuracy and certain features that previously were found only in machines the size of a suitcase. You already know that this isn't springtime, so April Fools jokes are out. This thing is the real McCoy.

Kestrel 3000

Reviewer: Keith Nicol , Ski Trax Magazine Date: October 26, 2005
If you are into weather - and what skier isn't - then you will want to have a look at the Kestrel 3000. This lightweight, palm-sized device measures just about all the weather variables a person would be interested in, including current wind speed, maximum wind speed, average wind speed, temperature, wind chill, relative humidity, dewpoint, and heat stress. It also measures these variables in a variety of common units. I tested some of these for accuracy and found the Kestrel 3000 to within its stated limits - 3% for wind speed and humidity and 1°C for temperature. The temperature and wind chill measurements will be particularly useful for skiers. It's also waterproof and floats so you might find it useful for other activities like sea kayaking and hiking.

Good friends are more precious than diamonds and I'm fortunate in having several good friends. For each of them, I'd like to have a Kestrel 3000 Pocket Weather Meter. This invaluable little tool gives wind-speed, temperature, dewpoint, and humidity in fantastically accurate readings and it's all encased in a protective slip-on cover that measures 4.8

For my money, the Kestrel 3000 looks to be the best deal, and its wide versatility makes it the perfect addition for your outdoor gear or sports bag. Weather Meter

5
Reviewer: Jud Eades , Utah Outdoors Magazine Date: October 26, 2005
Attention Gizmo freaks! Kestrel has designed a pocket weather meter that measures wind speed, max wind speed, average wind speed, temperature, wind chill, humidity, heat index and dewpoint. Very high-tech. So, next time you're on the summit of a peak freezing your butt off, it will be nice to tell everyone that there were wind gusts of 70 mph, and the wind chill was 13 degrees Fahrenheit in the middle of August.
